The delicious details

De Sering grew out of Extinction Rebellion's Amsterdam chapter in 2019, with a single idea: rebuild community through shared meals. Today it serves 300 plant based meals daily across two locations, fuelled entirely by volunteers and a donation based pricing model that keeps the kitchen open to everyone.

The space doubles as a cultural meeting point, hosting lectures, screenings, workshops and fundraisers alongside the daily lunch and dinner service. Weekday lunches draw workers from the surrounding Sloterdijk area; evenings bring a broader mix of neighbours, activists and curious visitors to communal tables.

Coffee comes from Subcult, the in house speciality coffee bar, while the bar pours draft beers from Amsterdam's Butcher's Tears brewery and a short list of natural wines.

Menu

What is on the table

Fully plant-based kitchen serving globally inspired two-course meals of soups, curries, stews, pasta and grain dishes with homemade bread and dips. TestTafel, the experimental sister project, offers a multi-course tasting menu that changes weekly based on seasonal availability.

Every plate at De Sering is fully plant based, built around hearty, globally inspired cooking. The community kitchen serves a two course format: a soup starter followed by a main of curries, stews, pasta or grain dishes, with homemade bread, aioli and dips on the side.

TestTafel, De Sering's experimental dining project at Mediamatic near Centraal Station, takes a different approach: a multi course tasting menu that changes every Wednesday, shaped by what is in season and available from the Amsterdam region. Both kitchens make bread, sauces and dips from scratch.
